Individual and tailored insurance for international and domestic transits by air, sea, road or rail.

  • Restricted Perils cover for standard perils including fire, lightning, explosion, and collision/overturning, in which cover can include the value of the animal and / or the shipping expenses.
  • All Risks of Mortality cover including accident, sickness and disease as well as Restricted Perils, in which cover can include the value of the animal and / or the shipping expenses.
  • Total Loss Only cover for the loss of the entire schedule of animals in the event of a total loss of the carrying conveyance.
  • Semen & Embryos cover for the loss of Semen & Embryos as a result of the escape of nitrogen from the shipping flask.
  • Extensions to cover;
    • Limited Theft and Unlawful Removal.
    • Quarantine; cover can be extended whilst the animal is in quarantine.
    • Prohibition of Export; cover for the shipping expenses if a transit is cancelled due to the closure of a country’s borders by government order following a disease outbreak.
    • Rejection Cover; automatic extension to the period of cover in the event that the shipment is rejected as a result of Prohibition of Import, to allow additional time for Government negotiations.
    • Retest Cover; cover in the event that an animal tests positive for a disease upon entry to a country.
    • Loss of Foetus; cover for females in the event of the loss of their in-utero foetus.
    • Loss of Quarter; cover for females in the event of permanent loss of use of mammary quarters.

Deductible options are available, providing cover in the event of a catastrophe, rather than expected attritional losses which can be absorbed by the individual or company.

Coverage will be subject to certain minimum standards for example IATA regulations and vessels to be registered with the Lloyds Internet Ships Register.

Underwriters will always consider new risks and are able to provide bespoke insurance solutions in such cases, for example:

  • Alpaca transits from Australia to the UK including cover for 6 months quarantine in New Zealand or Switzerland as per the import quarantine regulations of the UK.
  • Annual Master Policies for shipping agents, with individual shipments attaching throughout the year.
